Your life. Your choice. Your voice.

“Dignity really means that I deserve the best treatment I can receive”

There is a law called the ‘Mental Health Act’. This law states that you can be sent to hospital (detained), even when you do not want to be there.

You have lots of rights if you are detained under the Mental Health Act.

One of them is the right to receive help from an independent Mental Health Advocate (IMHA).

How your Independent Mental Health Advocate can help you

You might be detained:

If your own health and safety is at risk

OR

to keep other people safe

The Mental Health Act says that staff at the hospital must make sure you understand that you can get support from an IMHA.  They must tell you how you can get that help.
