We have recently been lucky enough to have had two volunteers helping in the office on a Friday morning Lorraine and Dawn, a big welcome they have already been a great help in the day to day running of SAM.

On the 22nd February 2008 we welcomed three new members of staff, James Whittome, Teresa Hardman and Deborah Hunt.  They will be employed as the new Information Workers, their role will be making all SAM's publicity and information materials more accessible for people with learning disabilities. We are very excited about the new posts as this is the first time that SAM has been able to employ people with learning disabilities.  We aim to develop their involvement to make our service more fully inclusive.

01/01/08 We welcome another new member of staff today, Rachel Hill will be the new administrator.

29/10/07 We welcome a new member of staff today. Richard Horner has joined us as an Advocacy Worker. We hope Richard enjoys his time with SAM.

29/10/07 We are losing Peter our administration worker on the 2nd of November. We are now recruiting for a replacement. If you are interested please call the office and request an application pack. See Contact Us page for the address and phone numbers.

09/07 A significant landmark in SAM's history as we move offices to first floor in the VAS building in John Street. We would like to thank our new landlords for the help they gave us in making the office space available and for making us welcome in SAM's new home.

01/08/07 Today SAM welcomes two new members of staff joining Dawn and Peter. Raudha Ghaurama joins SAM as our new Parent Advocacy Coordinator taking up the role left by Carol Martin. We also welcome Cat Murphy who joins SAM as our new Transitions Advocacy Coordinator. This is a new service being offered by SAM. We wish both Raudha and Cat all the best. They will both be reporting to Dawn who has taken on the new position of Advocacy Manager.

18/06/07 SAM's AGM went well and we were happy to have the Mayor and Mayoress as our guests. The Mayor was kind enough to present the certificates to our volunteers who successfully completed their training.

It was with much sadness that we said goodbye to Sylvia Blacklock. Sylvia has been involved with SAM in one capacity or another for over ten years. The mayoress presented her with a bouquet on behalf of all at SAM. We also said goodbye to Carol Martin our Parent advocacy coordinator. She was presented with a bouquet by Sharon White.

29/06/07 A reminder that our AGM is on the 18th July at the Pilgrim Centre at 12:00. We have been informed that the Mayor and Mayoress have confirmed they will be attending and we hope that the mayor will do us the honour of presenting certificates to our volunteers.

29/06/07 SAM has been notified that we have been successful in our bid for funding from the National Lotteries Awards For All programme. The funding is a one off payment which will help towards SAM's running costs. Our thanks to the Lottery for their support of our work

22/04/07 Ray Stephens completed the London Marathon and raised £90 pounds for SAM. Our thanks to him for his efforts and his support of SAM. Here is Ray with his medal.

13/04/07 SAM has been notified that we have been successful in our bid for funding from the Church Urban Fund. The funding has been approved for three years and will partially pay for the continued provision of Advocacy support to people with a learning disability in the Swindon Area. SAM wishes to thank the Church Urban Fund for it's generosity in providing this funding which will enable SAM to continue it's work in this area which has been increasing dramatically over the last year.

01/02/07 Ray Stephens – a long time friend of SAM’s is in training for the London Marathon this year. Ray will be raising much needed funds for SAM. If you would like to sponsor Ray please send us an e-mail at SAM or send an e-mail to Ray at runat50plus@aol.com. We will be updating this website with Ray’s progress and also the other events that he will be running in during the year.

26/01/07 SAM has been notified that we have been successful in our bid for funding from the British Institute of Learning Disability. Funding has been approved for two years for the provision of Transitions support by S.A.M. Transitions is the provision of support for young people aged between 16-25 as they move from child to adult services. The funding granted by BILD will enable SAM to employ a full time worker to work in this area.
